Make good stuff, then make it easy for people to buy it. There’s your anti-piracy plan. The big content companies are TERRIBLE at doing both of these things, so it’s no wonder they’re not doing so well in the current environment. And right now everyone’s fighting to control distribution channels, which is why I can’t watch Star Wars on Netflix or iTunes. It’s fine if you want to have that fight, but don’t yell and scream about how you’re losing business to piracy when your stuff isn’t even available in the box I have on top of my TV. A lot of us have figured out how to do this.

Jonathan Coulton writes a smart post about MegaUpload, SOPA/PROTECT-IP, Copyright, and being an artist amongst pirates. Grab a cup of coffee on this snowy/rainy Saturday and make this your morning read. (via spytap)

IAWTV Award Nominations 2011 (as a list)

Because I am not really happy with the presentation of the categories on the IAWTV homepage (it’s not handy if you wanna have an overview), I made a simple list for you with all the categories and all the nominations on it.

Read it now, thank me later. :)

The Move (that’s stuff for a film)…

It’s postponed for a week. The movers are terribly busy. Anyway, this week, next week, who cares. Word from customs is, my move from Germany to Switzerland after more than 18 months of living here is not on their list of exceptions (the list of exceptions by the way is so secret no one knows if it even exists, it’s probably just an urban legend).

So, I have to pay sales tax, which is 8 % here in Switzerland, on everything I bring to Bern. Fun. Even my 20 year old towels and gifts. Now I have to figure out how much everything is worth. How much would you pay for a bunch of VHS cassettes with my daughters early stage figure skating on it? It’s priceless, right?

Moving again…

If you follow my posting(s) you might know by now, that I’m finally moving all of my stuff from Germany to Switzerland. For about 5 years I had an apartment in both countries.

Yesterday I’ve learned that Switzerland has a time limit to move your stuff for free to Switzerland. It’s 18 months. So with my 5 years, I’m clearly beyond that time limit. But there are exceptions and I still hope that my case is one of the exceptions, because I left Switzerland for at least one weekend per month and I had a freaking second household.

But, you never know how customs works. I’m still waiting for an answer from the customs office. Hopefully they answer soon, because the move is scheduled for November 18th.

Stay tuned…
