Moving (and) stuff…

Okay, as I am a very difficult to understand person (especially when I talk to someone) I try to explain some of the things everyone asks, but I fail to explain in just 140 characters.

-Q Where are you moving to?

-A My current situation is me having a home in three different countries. First of all Austria. I was born in Vienna, was raised there and worked there for almost 37 years. One day I had enough of Vienna, but I’ve never made a clear cut when I moved to Germany (because of my kids, who we agreed on will stay in Vienna). So, despite me not being in Austria anymore I always had a home there. Sometimes my own (paid apartment), lately only an address at a friends place where I’m also able to stay when I’m back home.

My second home is in Germany. I lived and worked in Düsseldorf for round about 6 years. In between I also lived and worked for 8 months in Bern (Switzerland). In 2007 I moved again to Bern, but still keeping my apartment in Düsseldorf, too. Back then I wasn’t convinced that this contract will last longer than a year, because of my experience the first time. But it did and so I decided (because in 2004 I fell in love with Leipzig, but that’s a whole other story) to move my German base from Düsseldorf to Leipzig (though I still lived and worked in Bern). I moved all my stuff from Düsseldorf and all my stuff from Vienna to Leipzig. Considering Leipzig my primary home (it’s the city where my publishing company’s home is, too) and Bern my secondary home, the place where I was/am most of my time. It doesn’t make sense, I know. But don’t judge someone who is foolishly in love with a city (that is, Leipzig).

As my contract in Bern was prolonged and prolonged over the years and I am there since almost 5 years and I will be there at least till April 2012. And as another love grew in my chest over the last three years (my love to web series and Los Angeles in particular) I decided it’s time to change something that doesn’t fit anymore. And the only change that made sense to me, was breaking the lease of my apartment in Leipzig and move all of my stuff to Bern. Leaving Germany for good.

Well, at least that was the plan. Saturday I had the chance to talk to my landlady in Leipzig and she made me an offer that I couldn’t refuse. I will keep my apartment in Leipzig, but I don’t have to pay rent anymore (it’s very hard in Leipzig to get an apartment rented out). The only thing I have to pay are the service charges. Which means I’ll cover the costs of heating, power and stuff like that. Which is just a tiny fraction of the actual rent. It’s kind of a win for me, because I don’t have to move all the publishing company stuff and the comics that are stored there immediately. I will move them eventually, but not before April 2012. The date when my contract in Switzerland ends and I figured out what’s coming next.

I’ll still move the rest of my stuff (furniture and all my belongings) to Bern by the end of October, but I won’t clear out the apartment in Leipzig entirely. And if my love for Leipzig is too longing, I have a place to stay there.

In the end it frees up a few bucks for web series and my vacations in Los Angeles and I have the comfort having my personal belongings in Bern, where I am after all most of my time.
