IAWTV Award Nominations 2011 (as a list)

Because I am not really happy with the presentation of the categories on the IAWTV homepage (it’s not handy if you wanna have an overview), I made a simple list for you with all the categories and all the nominations on it.

Read it now, thank me later. :)

So much done - so less time left

Time is running fast and in less than 24 hours I will be up in the air (except this volcano ash cloud gets in the way) flying back to Zürich.

But here a short recap of the last four days. Thursday lunch with Elias Benavidez (@hllywdEMB) the creator of A Boys Life. I am the Executive Producer of this short film. It will be out in June. Also at the lunch was Kristyn Burtt (@KristynBurtt), Allison Vanore (@alliecine) and Rob Gokee (@robgokee). We were at The Spanish Kitchen and except for Kristyn we all had Tacos. I learned that Tacos are never made with bell peppers, since then I’m in love with them (I have a major bell pepper intolerance).

The evening was booked with my first ever @IAWTV meeting taking place at the blip.tv LA headquarters (@bliptv). Lots of great things are going on within the academy and I can’t wait to see how it all turns out. Again, there were a lot of people I haven’t met before, like Greg Storm (@gregstorm) and Casey McKinnon (@CaseyMcKinnon).

Friday nothing more than Laurie Records (@laurierecords) birthday party at The Hungry Cat (@thehungrycat). I met Fawnda McMahan (@fawndarella), think of the squeeing Geiko piggy, Sheila Daley (@shedaley) and a bunch of Lauries best friends. It was great to see Stephanie Thorpe (@thestephthorpe), Allison Vanore, Sandra Payne and Kristyn Burtt again this evening.

Saturday was the @IAWTV writers group with Bernie Su (@BernieSu). It was three hours of fun and there were awesome new scripts for features and WebSeries. In the evening there was a hammer don’t hurt em’ improv show (@hammerimprov) going on, but I decided not to go there, because I was really exhausted.

Today I had a breakfast with Laurie Records and Sandra Payne. It was a great time, the only thing that was not so fun was me hurting my second toe at the table while sitting down. The toe hurts pretty hard and is all blue. Only thing I can do is cool it and hope that the pain goes away soon. Someday all my toes will have been broken at least once. I am that clumsy.

In the afternoon I went to the Cafe Solar de Cahuenga, I nice meeting place at the outskirts of Hollywood. Well, not really outskirts. Just kidding. ;) I met there with Paula Rhodes (@paula_rhodes) and her fiance Charlie Bodin (@charliebodin), she is besides Stephanie Thorpe the creator of the Elfquest fantrailer. I contributed to the film and was therefore part of a drawing of prices and I won a pair of Elfquest ears specially made for the fantrailer. I’m a bit biased, wether I should keep them as a unique prop from set or should wear day them over my ears from now on (I always wanted to have pointy elf ears). But I rather not wear them. They are to precious.

Right when we were ready to leave Solar we ran into Bernie Su again. He went there to write some more awesome stuff (Solar is the place where a lot of WebSeries ideas were born).

And because my day wasn’t packed enough and didn’t hurt enough, I went to the movies afterwards. First I saw Bridesmaids at the Arclight Hollywood on Sunset and Vine. Then I saw Pirates of the Caribbean 4 at the El Capitan on Hollywood and Highland. There were a lot of cosplayers at the Pirates 4 screening, but the movie itself was very boring. And I didn’t really like it as soon as I saw that Penelope Cruz is in the movie. I have never liked this women and I guess I will never like her and she spoils every movie for me she’s in. I don’t understand why she even gets casted at all. Bridesmaids on the other hand was a fun film. Not a big revelation, but it’s worth the time to watch and you get a good amount of laughs out of it. Although some scenes are kinda gross and awkward.

Tomorrow a last lunch with Kenny (@geekyfanboy) in Santa Monica after which I will be off to the airport. Returning my rental, checking in and waiting for my flight to take off.

Except for the hurting toe in the end, this “vacation” in LA was a great time for me. I’m sad that I have to fly back, but I will return in less than 2 months for San Diego Comic-Con with a week and a half in LA after Comic-Con. I can’t wait for this to happen.
